Two Quick Mid-summer Style Ideas [tutorial inside]

This summer has been pretty dang steamy.
I hear ya (and every client that enters my chair)  ...

"Kassandra, my hair is SO DRY!"

I'll clue you in on the why and how humidity zaps your locks later, but for now let's cool down with some quick mid-summer styles!

[ The Top Knot Half Bun ]

top knot.jpg

The Half Bun is a easy way to style for any season and works great on chin length to collar length hair.

It's especially great for that wash and go summer look!  It's best when the hair has a slight bend or wave to keep the look modern.

This can work on second-day, late in the day or at the beach hair.

Side-swept Braid ]

unnamed-2.jpg

This is a great look for a fast early-morning style for work, an evening out or for a go-to style while at the beach or pool.

Side swept braids are mostly reserved for longer hair lengths, certainly doable for a medium length side sweep.

Shampoo and condition hair the night before and allow to air dry while sleeping to give your hair a un-tamed look.

The tutorial may be a bit advanced, but it's a general tutorial for braiding hte bang area back and combining it with the longer mermaid braid. :)

For hair left out, add a few bends and waves, perfect for this not-meant-to-be perfect style.

Is your hair DRY?

The most common cause of dry hair is nutritional deficiency, but may also be attributed by heat, an open cuticle, chemicals, and poor maintenance. Cheaper hair products that are harsh on hair also contribute to this condition, as they may strip away essential oils and nutrients required for overall scalp and hair health. Most chemicals in perms and relaxers may damage the hair follicle and overall look, as the hair becomes dry and brittle.

How To Detect

Dry hair lacks the oil and moisture it required to give it a shiny and soft texture. As a result, hair that is dry is brittle and dull and has a straw-like texture. Most people will experience dry hair at one point or another, either due to over-processing or exposing it to wind, sun and chlorinated swimming pools. All of these are considered external causes of this hair condition.

Chronic dry hair that comes from an internal source may be a sign of an underlying health problem. When conditioning treatments do not moisturize your hair, it may be time to seek medical advice as it can be an early sign of a more serious internal condition.

External Factors

  • Excessive washing and blow-drying, harsh detergents
  • Environmental dryness

Internal Sources

  • Hypothyroidism
  • Malnutrition
  • Hypoparathyroidism

Kasia Ammonia Free Color Lab

The newest hair color trends will make your new style pop and give you a "look at me" diva-feel.

Blonde

Majority of guys and girls believe blonde tresses to be really sexy and attractive. No doubt about that, and probably that's because blonde hair also signifies sex appeal. There are many shades for blonde color tone like honey blonde, platinum blonde, strawberry blonde, light white, pale and golden blonde, etc.

Brown

The reason brown is so common is because it suits almost all skin tones and complexion. There are many shades for brown color tone like light chocolate brown, dark brown, light golden brown, light cool brown, etc. Almost all shades of brown can help you soften your persona and appearance.

Black

The beauty of coloring your hair black is that it looks fantastic on both fair and tanned skin. The color brings out the eyes and can't really suit everyone. Although, beware, as black hair can also make your complexion go dull and lifeless (if chosen on wrong skin tone).

Red

Innocence yet can be mysterious. It enhances overall features, makes the face look softer, and with slight glow. There are many shades for brown color tone like dark auburn, medium reddish blonde, light auburn, medium auburn, etc. Just think about Julia Roberts (oh, so gorgeous).

Leave summer with a STYLE!

1970's inspired flowing texture

Different from the waved hairstyle inspired by the 1940s, this flowing, textured, (and sometimes) waved hairstyle trend in 2010 relies instead on natural-looking waves that border on bed hair

As with straight and naturally styled long hair, flowing waves also work well when very long

Top Knot

Volume is key: teasing and hairspray will help create the look

Works well with hair that has some soft waves and texture to it

Long Plaited Braids

Great with any hair colour The fish plait is 2010's take on the simple pony tail

While you slumber..execute soft, wavy hair like Sarah Jessica Parker's!

The great thing about her look is you can get it while you sleep.

That's right.  By following a simple bedtime routine, your shut-eye can turn into some serious beauty sleep.

According to Deborah Dunham, creating great morning hair starts with a good cleansing the night before.

Tips to DIY!

1. Wash hair as you normally would  with your favorite Babo or Hamadi Shampoo!

2. Apply a rinse out conditioner.

3. Finish with a cool/cold water rinse.

4. Towel blot.

5. Apply leave-in conditioner, we recommend Hamadi's LEAVE IN, aside from Shea Spray, it is our TOP SELLER!

6. Apply and detangle with BABO to hair gently from the ends up to the roots.

7. Create desired part and/or fringe sections and arrange hair the way you normally wear it.

8. Allowing for where you wish to create waves, separate strands into individual 2" sections.

9. Gently twist hair into a clockwise direction until the hair is completely twisted (the tighter you twist, the tighter the resulting waves). You can also braid your hair or put it in a ballerina bun for a different wave pattern.

10. Tuck the end of the twisted strand under at the base of the twist and secure with elastics.

11. Go to bed and allow hair to dry naturally overnight.

12. The next morning, carefully remove the elastics.

13. Use fingers to pick out waves and arrange as desired (do not brush it or the waves will come out).

After waking, you only need to scrunch the curls into place with a bit  more  product. For those with a shorter, edgier, spikier style, it looks great with some product in it from the night before."

Try it! Creating your style overnight -- we could all use a few extra minutes before that alarm goes off!

The condition of hair is the essence of everything Kasia Salon does! Going into the new year, unless the hair is in good condition, the rest of our hairdressing is not fully realized.   Just like our Kasia skin care routine, we believe treatments are a regimen-based method, recognizing that healthy hair relies on consistency and a healthy scalp.

Most don't realize that even the 'organic' and 'natural' brands carry chemicals and/or use heavy ingredients that weigh hair down and cause scalp to become dry, irritated; producing unhealthy locks.

Your scalp should be treated no different than your skin, absorbing 60% of everything into the blood stream, making it react and even cause hair loss.

Q. My hair is very dry, brittle and damaged. How can I repair it and make it look and feel better and healthier?

A. Detox your hair! If our skin and hair are such a huge part of our WHOLE-istic system, then why not detox your hair. Give your hair a break from harse chemicals and provide it with nutrients, ph balance, healthy organic and natural moisturizing and cleansing treatments.

Kasia Salon clients LOVE Hamadi and what it's done for them..... so give it a try  on your hair for 6 weeks.  Your hair will thank you - look - feel much, much better.  Damaged hair will be restored. You'll never go back to shampoos with detergent and chemicals again.

Last but not Least......InStyle just released their top hairstyles for 2009. Here were our favorite from their top 10 list.

Katie Holmes's Bob

Jennifer Garner Voluminous Waves

Jennifer Aniston's Casual Straight

Makeover mother-maven took the top spot for the second year in a row. The stylish star has sported several different bobs, but this winning look combines two of our most popular categories—bangs and browns.
Spray damp hair with a Hamadi Shea Spray and then blow-dry with a round brush. "Dry in 2-inch sections—you need a nice amount of hair to heat it up and keep the temperature." Quickly roll up each section in a Velcro roller (1½-inch roller is best) before it cools. After 30 minutes release rollers and lightly brush out hair with your hands to soften the look.

Jen became a hair icon years ago with "the Rachel" and now with a lightly-layered straight style, she's still on top.
