Toxin Alert: How to Asbestos Proof Your Skin Care + Health

FINDING ASBESTOS IN YOUR BEAUTY PRODUCTS.

Asbestos was widely used for decades as a common additive in building materials until we discovered its potentially severe health effects. Since then its use in manufacturing has been limited… but popcorn ceilings in homes built in the 1960s aren’t the only place asbestos could be lurking.

Throughout the last several years, cosmetic and personal care products have tested positive for asbestos. News coverage of this toxin has been mounting

MINERALS PROVIDE NATURAL SUN PROTECTION

Micronized titanium dioxide is the key. It is found naturally in minerals and does not clog pores or dry out the skin. It works quite remarkably. Basically, it allows light to pass through the visible ray region (light that is needed for healthy develop-ment of skin) while intercepting the ultraviolet rays. Micronized titanium dioxide guards against the damaging effects of ultraviolet rays, yet gives the skin a natural looking finish. Research shows micronized titanium dioxide provides a natural barrier to UVA and radiation without irritation, burning or stinging.

Why You Should Always Wear Gloves When Gardening

Gardening is one of the most relaxing hobbies and is a great way to beautify your home and get some fresh air. While it is very hands-on, you should not garden bare-handed. Instead, using gloves is the best way to garden safely and protect your hands.

Reduce Bacterial Infections

When you are gardening, especially when you are cleaning out a new area of dirt, you never know what you might run into. If you have an open wound on your hand, you are at risk of an infection caused by the different kinds of bacteria. The infection could cause tetanus, or even some disease that could spread in your gastrointestinal, or respiratory tract, or skin, which is your largest organ. Either way, none of those bacterial infections are pleasant, even if they are treatable. The best way to prevent yourself from exposure is by wearing gloves.

Avoid Bites

Along with bacteria, soil and plants are often surrounded by insects, spiders, and small animals. With any of these creatures, a bite could be harmful. For example, while most are harmless, some species of spiders can pose risks to your health. Most of the time, you will not know if the bite was harmful with poison or venom until you accidentally put your hand somewhere you were not supposed to and the creature bites or stings you in self-defense. In some cases, your gloves could protect you from serious injury. Although your garden gloves are not invincible, they still provide an extra layer between you and the various species you might meet while planting flowers or removing weeds.

Protection from Chemicals

To keep your garden free of weeds or pests, you probably treat your garden with different chemical solutions. However, since most of these sprays are meant to kill things, they are also not something you want to sit on your skin. Many of these products encourage users to wear gloves because of this issue. If these chemicals touch your skin, it could cause dermatitis or other disorders. In extreme cases of long-term exposure, some pesticides could cause cancer. All of these are preventable risks that are no longer an issue if you wear good quality gloves when handling chemicals.

Wearing gardening gloves can prevent you from harm while landscaping and planting in your garden. Instead of worrying about what might be lurking behind a bush or under a rock, you can instead worry about if your tulips are getting too much sun or if you remembered to water your garden.

Skin Conditions You Really Shouldn’t Ignore

Your skin is your body’s barrier from the outside world. There are many ways your skin reacts to tell you it needs your help. A few of the ways the skin notifies you is through acne, atopic dermatitis, and moles. If you experience any of these conditions, do not ignore this cry for help.

Acne

Acne is a common condition that most people struggle with, especially during their teen years. Acne can be caused from excess oils or clogged pores in the skin. It is important to develop a skin care regime that will help keep the skin healthy and clean. If your acne is severe, consult a dermatologist who can give you medications to clear up your skin. Untreated acne can get infected, leave scars, and develop into deeper skin issues.

Atopic Dermatitis

Atopic dermatitis is the most common type of eczema making your skin red and itchy. While eczema is most common with children, it can occur at any age and flare up periodically. It is typically an exterior allergic reaction to something in your environment. There is currently no cure but there are steroids and ointments that can relieve the effects of the reaction. When left untreated, atopic dermatitis can cause a variety of other problems that impact your quality of life. Consult a dermatologist to help you limit flare ups and control the health of your skin.

Unusual or Changing Moles

There are a variety of moles that are not uncommon to have. A few of the mole types are harmless, however some are early signs of skin cancer. It is important to do a periodic skin evaluation for any new or changing moles. Some characteristics to look for are moles that are not symmetrical, growing, or darken in color. If you notice anything abnormal, see a physician who can test the area for the potential of skin cancer. It is much easier to remove a single mole when first identified than go through a cancer treatment.

The most important thing you can do for your skin is to keep it clean and avoid irritants. Irritants include harsh chemicals, overexposure to the sun, and anything that makes your skin react negatively. Your skin's reactions are a sign that the body does not like what it is being exposed to. Pay attention to the state of your skin and consult a doctor when needed to avoid any additional complications.

Neurodiversity, Women & ADHD | What's Estrogen got to do with it?

Executive Function is a Key Predictor of Life Success

But what happens, when you feel scattered, filled with ideas, but unable to find time to get it done?

In this podcast, I’ll be sharing a message on neurodiversity when it comes to not just being a woman, but being a mid-life woman.

ww.png

First, let me explain what  neurodiversity is:

Well, welcome to my brain - and this episode is meant to shine a light on the superpowers and  neurodiverse strengths.

Neurodiversity is the belief that conditions labeled as ADD, Autism, Bipolar, Dyslexia etc are brand evolutions of homosapiens. Rather than a defect of the genome.

With this thought we must consider its values and benefits before considering its obstacles and complications.

If you are a woman with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), you’ve probably known—all your life—that you’re different.

As girls, we learn which behaviors, thinking, learning, and working styles are preferred, which are accepted and tolerated, and which are frowned upon. These preferences are communicated in innumerable ways—from media and books to our first-grade classroom to conversations with our classmates and parents.

Over the course of a lifetime, women with ADHD learn through various channels that the way they think, work, speak, relate, and act does not match up with the preferred way of being in the world. In short, they learn that difference is bad. And, since these women know that they are different, they learn that they are bad.

It’s time for a change.

First, I’ll start with the energetic and spiritual.  As a clinical hypnotherapist and quantum biofeedback practitioner, I spend a lot of time around the science of neuroplasticity.    I often share that everything starts with an energetic input into the brain.   Then, our psychology affects our physiology.

So often, when women are anxious, it can hijack the exectuive function, and you have too many thoughts at once, that can create “ADHD symptoms - but is truly overwhelm and anxiety.”

To share how overwhelm and anxiety is tied into our subconscious mind, to be effective in helping rewire the mind, my goal is to help shift the critical factor to the side  - which is the barrier between the conscious mind and the subconscious mind so we can create unification and away from double mindedness.

This gives access to the belief system area, where our incongruent beliefs and thoughts that cause us to do maladaptive behaviors, anxiousness and “being stuck.”

And what I'm attempting to do is we’re attempting to overlay a new belief, if you will, or establish a new predominant belief in the belief system, in place of the belief that is there that’s driving the current behavior.

So What I want to do is  actually get through the critical factor, which is the area of the belief systems, into the subconscious mind.

From there, I can reprogram those thoughts at that subconscious level, because the big driver in our subconscious mind because… there’s too many drivers there. The main driver though is the imagination.

And heres the ticket, most people are not familiar that we can amplify any thought in our subconscious mind imagination from zero to 2,500 times.

We’ve attached kind of a scale to it to have it make sense. And then, so people take a thought or a belief into their imagination, they amplify it from zero to 2,500 times. And so, we can make any thought, anything a really big deal. And then we have that statement in society we use, ”Well, this person always makes mountains out of molehills.”

What you can actually do when people understand how their spiritual mind works, they can actually be taught how to turn their imagination back down and get back into balance.

And what happens is, when you turn the imagination down and you come back into balance, you are also shutting down and collapsing the emotional content that’s been created around that thought.

Male and Female Differences

Over the past decade, researchers and clinicians have recognized that ADHD symptoms manifest differently between the sexes.

Most girls and women have the inattentive form of ADHD.

As a women that has a neurodiverse brain, I would describe myself as incredibly creative, a brain that runs at the speed of a ferrari, but has the breaks at the speed of a bicycle.

So jumping in, I celebrate the fact that we can really celebrate our brains as a superpower, especially when we are informed and have the supportive structure, rituals and consistency in our lives.

My first point here is driven from the profound Dr Hallowell around the proven fact that Is ADHD different in girls and women

He states that the diagnosis of ADHD gets missed all the time in females, as there are gender differences in ADHD symptoms. Women and girls tend not to exhibit disruptive or defiant symptoms, unlike men and boys.

They may not stand out. Rather, they sit in the back of the classroom lost in their thoughts, daydreaming, quite content to be in their own world.

As adults, they tend to underachieve, not due to lack of talent or hard work, but due to lack of focus and organization, the classic signs of ADHD. If they do seek help, they typically get diagnosed with depression or anxiety, because doctors tend not to think of ADHD in females.

They may well have depression and anxiety, but the depression and anxiety are caused by the untreated ADHD. Treating the ADHD often fixes the anxiety and depression because the woman will feel more in control, hence less anxious, and will perform up to potential, which takes away the so-called depression.

The Estrogen Effect

Women with ADHD, unlike men with the condition, must deal with the complicating factor of the effects estrogen has on the ADHD symptoms.

What I am going to share today is that when estrogen levels are low, you may experience increased feelings of irritability, moodiness, depression and more.

Potential Signs of ADHD in Adult Women

Some signs of potential ADHD in women may include:

  • Feeling overwhelmed in crowded or busy environments

  • Struggling to stay organized and on top of routine things

  • Experiencing large swings in energy and activity levels

  • Difficulty coping in social situations and missing routine social cues

  • Regularly  experiencing feelings of low self-esteem

  • Unable to manage clutter and organize your household

  • Difficulty with routine money management

ADHD and ESTROGEN Deep Dive

In addition to the typical cognitive burden that ADHD can bring, women with ADHD also have to deal with an ever fluctuating hormone environment.

Changes in estrogen can intensify the symptoms of ADHD, particularly during the menstrual cycle, puberty and menopause. It is important for women diagnosed with ADHD to be aware of how estrogen affects their condition, and to take steps to lessen the impact.

The brain is one of the organs of the body targeted by estrogen. In addition to being one of the main hormones that is responsible for regulating the female reproductive system, estrogen also plays a role in cognitive function. It modulates the neurotransmitters serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine. These neurotransmitters help with focus, concentration, mood, and memory.

When estrogen levels are low, you may experience increased feelings of irritability, moodiness, and depression, problems with sleep, anxiety, difficulty concentrating, fuzzy thinking, forgetfulness and memory problems, fatigue and loss of energy, as well as hot flashes.

Women with ADHD can be particularly sensitive to lower estrogen levels since ADHD is also associated with a dysfunction in the neurotransmitter systems in the brain.

Progesterone can also have an impact. Higher estrogen levels seem to aid the effectiveness of ADHD medications, while progesterone seems to decrease their effectiveness.

For many women with ADHD, fluctuating hormone levels can make managing the symptoms of the condition more challenging. The interplay between the effects of hormones and medication is ever changing.

However, there are things you can do to help during those times when the estrogen levels are fluctuating and ADHD worsens.

  • Work with your doctor to find an appropriate medication level.

  • Simplify your daily life in as many ways as possible to lower stress.

  • Get more sleep.

  • Get regular exercise.

  • Maintain a healthy diet.

And lastly there is a spiritual and energetic aspect of the mind and how it generates the like-minded symptoms of - ADHD, and that I can definitely help with.

I’d love to help you bring the spiritual, mental and lifestyle embodyment together so you can align with your true nature, free yourself from pain and to stop trying to fix yourself.

You’re brilliant.  XO - Kassandra

Head to Toe: Beauty Treatments to Help You Look and Feel Your Best

You are a goddess, but winter certainly doesn’t make you feel like one. Between itchy dry skin and scalp, acne from wearing masks, and cold toes with callouses, it’s a long, cold pandemic winter. What better time to do genuine self-care, taking care of your body from inside and out. Here are some great options for all skin types and tones while you’re hunkered down in some comfy sweaters! Hopefully, you can be prepared for the lovely spring to come.

Get Steamy

The Nordic peoples have it right: there’s nothing so refreshing or magnificent for the body in cold weather as spending time in a sauna. Saunas have been proven to relax your arteries, and help with blood flow to all the organs of the body. Those relaxed arteries can help lower blood pressure along with your stress. This includes the brain. Finnish studies show lower incidence of Alzheimer’s and dementia in men who use saunas once a week. Besides the help to chronic pain patients and benefits to the lungs, a winter sauna visit just feels wonderful as well.

Hair Masks

Your hair needs a mask for protection and health, just as your face does. You must have the right type of mask to use for your hair type and texture. There are many hair masks on the market for straight hair of varying textures and thicknesses, but also those for curly hair of varying textures. Make sure to read ingredients carefully and choose which ones fit your particular hair type. A mask can provide extra needed moisture in the winter cold, and help heal the hair itself to prevent breakage.

Varicose Vein Treatments

It’s common in winter for varicose veins to become more pronounced and uncomfortable due to winter chill. Besides being visibly unsightly to varying degrees, depending on whether they in need of deep vein or visible surface care, varicose veins can be intensely painful as they increase in severity. Wearing compression stockings helps minimally, but you might not want to keep wearing thick stockings in the summer. Varicose vein treatments are minimally invasive, can be done in-office, and require little to no downtime. This leaves you free to do more important things with your time.

Mani/Pedi

It’s been a long pandemic- getting a mani-pedi is more than just beauty care. Your hands and feet do a huge volume of the heavy lifting in your day. Taking care of both helps you look polished and professional as well. Your cuticles and calluses, though, can have a lot to do with how your hands and feet feel. Your manicurist also sloughs off dead skin cells and usually massages hands and feet, which can help with relaxation. Regular pedicures can help you to keep from getting painfully cracked heels as well.

Massage Therapy

Adding massage therapy to your beauty regimen can add a lot to your physical health as well as your beauty. It can eliminate toxins, and stimulate blood flow, critical in cold weather months. But, massage therapy can also lower blood pressure, and enhance your immunity. It also helps with fatigue issues and anxiety, which are both connected, and also a particular problem right now.

Dry Brushing

Far from being a magical way to heal every ailment, dry brushing is still a great way to help your skin to be healthy and clear. Your skin is your largest bodily organ and protects your body in many ways. Dry brushing gently stimulates the top layer of your skin, your epidermis, so that your dermis, just below, can be moved slightly. This keeps lymphatic fluid moving, which helps you not keep bloating water weight, keeps your skin moisturized. More importantly, your lymphatic system helps your immune system work properly, something you want to happen!

Meditation

Meditation has many known benefits, and there are many forms. Some people prefer to let their minds “zone out” during exercise or yoga. Others like to use journaling as a meditational option. Many use mindfulness apps or meditation apps to do full-body relaxation. Regardless of what you use, it’s important to make sure that you use some sort of meditational technique to help your body to release anxiety and have a good, healthy sleep. Whichever form of meditation works best for you, finding a version that helps your body is essential.

Your body has gone through so much this winter! Help your body heal and your mind relax by taking care of all of the various parts of it, including your skin and your mind! Taking care of your body is such important work, but soon you’ll be both looking and feeling your best once again. Hopefully, your spring will be particularly refreshing and lovely, with both your body and mind refreshed.

What’s the Best Way to Treat Varicose Veins?

dreamstime_s_181806569.jpg

Varicose veins are an unpleasant reality for many women. Once they develop, they don’t go away on their own, which means that treating them is the only way to be rid of them. There are a lot of treatment options out there, which begs the question of which way is the best way to treat varicose veins.

Exercise

Varicose veins form because the valves within the veins that keep blood from flowing backward weaken and are no longer able to function properly. This causes blood to collect and pool at various points within the veins. If you have high blood pressure, that makes it even harder for your circulatory system to keep your blood moving efficiently. Exercise can help reduce the severity of your varicose veins by lowering your blood pressure and improving circulation in your legs. Low-impact exercises that strengthen your calf muscles are also beneficial. As your calf muscles contract, they massage your veins and help them pump blood back up to the rest of your body. Such exercises include activities such as cycling, walking, swimming, and yoga.

Compression Socks

Sometimes providing your veins with extra support can help improve their structural integrity. As such, you may find wearing compression socks to help reduce your symptoms. Compression socks are specially designed to apply even pressure to your legs to help with a variety of medical conditions. For best results, choose socks that go up to your knees. Compression socks are meant to be worn during the day and are typically removed at night while resting. Different socks will apply different amounts of pressure, so it’s important to make sure that you get a pair that will provide the support you need without overdoing it.

Professional Treatments

Lifestyle changes can help reduce the symptoms you experience as a result of varicose veins. For some people, that may be enough. Such adjustments won’t make them go away though. Medical treatment is necessary if you are to rid yourself of them entirely. There are a variety of treatment options to choose from. Many of these treatments are minimally invasive. You’ll be able to leave the same day and won’t have to deal with any required downtime for most. Such options include sclerotherapy, laser treatments, ambulatory phlebectomy, vein stripping, and catheter-assisted procedures that use radiofrequency or laser energy. In these procedures, the veins are removed or closed off. That may sound somewhat alarming since nearly every part of your body needs a steady supply of blood to function properly. The human body is remarkably adaptable though and will develop new veins as needed to supply your body with the nutrients and oxygen it needs.

Changing Your Diet

There is very little about your body that isn’t impacted by your diet. In regards to your circulatory system and varicose veins in particular, what you eat impacts your blood’s viscosity, how much water you retain, your weight, and constipation. If your blood is thinner, it will flow more easily. Reducing how much water you retain and maintaining a healthy weight also alleviates the strain on your veins. Eating enough fiber keeps your digestive system moving smoothly, reducing the amount of strain you may otherwise do to eliminate waste. Such straining can aggravate and worsen already damaged valves, so the less of it you do, the better.

Altering Your Attire

As much as you love your favorite pair of heels, if you suffer from varicose veins, it may be time to retire them or at least not wear them as frequently or for as long. High heels can restrict blood flow, as do tight-fitting clothing. This increases the strain on veins and worsens the symptoms of varicose veins. Shoes with lower heels work the calf muscles more, which will promote better circulation. Wearing clothing that is loose around your waist, groin area, and legs will also allow for better blood flow.

Elevating Your Legs

Blood has a literal uphill battle when it comes to returning to your heart. It has to fight against gravity to make it back to your heart and lungs. Elevating your legs offers multiple benefits, including improving your circulation by allowing your blood to flow with gravity instead of against it and promoting the smooth flow of blood throughout your circulatory system. It’s best if your legs are elevated to or above where your heart is. This alleviates some of the strain on the veins in your legs and can help reduce the blood pooling in them. If you’ll be sitting for a while or resting, that’s a good time to put your legs up.

Which treatment option is best for addressing varicose veins ultimately depends on you and your circumstances. There are a variety of treatment options available that you can choose from. If you prefer natural, at-home treatments, there are options for that. If your preference is for medical interventions, multiple treatment options exist for that as well. Consult with your doctor before deciding on a treatment plan so you can choose the one that works best for you.

BEAUTY SLEEP _ STRESS _ CORTISOL RISING

re.jpg

SLEEP DEEP

The relationship between sleep and adaptogens, in the perspective of Chinese Medicine, goes hand in hand with what is the “hidden” common knowledge:

Keeping the nervous system stabilized to remove the body from fight-or-flight mode to processing mode is key.

The way we sleep and the quality of sleep is directly related to the level of stress we’re dealing with.

Oftentimes, people think they are not experiencing stress, but are only dealing with insomnia.

In my experience it is very common that the insomnia is actually the way the body is manifesting and translating that stress.

Sleep is really important for the proper function of our organs. Getting to sleep at the right time is equally important as the quality of sleep because of the way organs regenerate themselves. Going to sleep later than 11pm at night consistently damages the quality of the liver function, which causes a domino effect with every other organ.

Understanding why we’re having trouble sleeping is key.

Knowing that our body needs to relax and adapt to the changes around us is key and using the proper herbs that will boost our blood flow and relax and nervous system is a great way to start.

Problems with sleep are quite common and can be caused by many factors: age, stress, hormones, stimulants, and daily habits.

All of these things can contribute to us to turning QVC on a 3 a.m.

pp.jpg

So where does stress STEAL our healing while sleeping?

Stress disrupts the regular circadian secretion of cortisol and can be a major cause of sleep problems.

Cortisol normally obeys the body’s inner clock and responds to light and dark, morning and night.

By utilizing a hormone test (Dutch is the best), you’ll see that Cortisol levels are naturally highest in the early morning., lower in the afternoon, and lower at night.

Cortisol can be a GOOD thing - as it helps to synchronize activity, patterns of eating, and patterns of sleep.

But too much, for too long, strips our skin health, hair growth, mood, emoitions and overall energy.

PHYTO to the Rescue!

There are herbs available to us that can assist in calming the nervous system down and promoting a more restful sleep for deep healing and rejuvenation.

CBN uses & benefits

  • The most well-known benefit of CBN is its sedative properties. Many of the relaxing and soothing effects that are associated with cannabis consumption are believed to be a result of either CBN or terpene levels, or a combination of the two. These properties can help promote sleep and reduce problems associated with sleep disorders such as sleep apnea and insomnia.

  • CBN can decrease intraocular pressure and is being looked into with potential abilities to support those with glaucoma.

  • Similar to other cannabinoids, CBN may show promise in cancer treatment by limiting tumor growth.

  • CBN’s similar properties to THC, as an effective analgesic, to reduce pain related to inflammation, position it to be used in pain management treatments.

  • CBN displays anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects, which supports evidence that there is potential that CBN could help with certain skin conditions such as psoriasis topically.

  • Research has indicated CBN has the ability to slow down the onset of symptoms caused by ALS and progressive, degenerative diseases.

Five Key Benefits of Self Love through Lymphatic Facial Massage

Five Key Benefits of Self Love through Lymphatic Facial Massage

1.) Deep cleanse

Lymphatic facials provide a deep cleanse of the skin. When carried out in conjunction with the use of gentle cleansing products- specially formulated for aging skin, results are believed to be significantly improved.

2.) Accelerated healing

Lymphatic massage helps to stimulate the flow of lymphatic fluid throughout the body, which has been designed to effectively move any unwanted toxins towards lymph nodes where they are removed.

The gentle movements used throughout the massage help to prevent blockages and bring oxygen and nutrients to the cells. When carried out with anti-inflammatory products such as ourOil Free Serum, visible benefits can be seen immediately.

3.) Reduced puffiness

As a gentle facial massage, lymphatic drainage can help retain a clear complexion and reduce puffiness due to its ability to disperse congestion, which may have been caused by irritants in cosmetics, illness, allergies or overindulgence in inflammatory foods.

Through a series of gentle and rhythmical movements - toxins will be moved to the lymph nodes and removed by the body.

4.) Congestion free skin

If our bodies become overly stressed or are subjected to environmental pollutants on a regular basis, the lymphatic system can become over saturated leading to an unwanted build up of toxins in the tissues, skin and joints.

Regular lymphatic self-massage can help to keep the lymph system flowing freely and aid with the removal of dead cells from the surface of the

5.) Promotes the feeling of relaxation and wellbeing

As a non-invasive treatment which is both gentle and therapeutic, lymphatic facial massage is extremely relaxing. It promotes feelings of wellbeing while reducing anxiety and stress.
